Treadmill Exercise promote a profitable cellular environment for axonal growth by induce the macrophages and neurotrophic factors

    Abstract

    After the peripheral nerve injury, nerve fibers distal to the lesion degenerated by the process known as Wallerian degeneration. Wallerian degeneration leads to the removal of axonal and myelin-derived debris, and prepares the environment for regenerating axons. Recruiting the macrophage is crucial to clean up the debris in the injury sites. During this wallerian degeneration period, induce the macrophage could be beneficial effect to axon growth and nerve regeneration. Treadmill exercise widely used for motor rehabilitation and general health control. Even treadmill exercise interventions are widely used, starting time point of therapeutic treadmill exercise is not defined by certified evidences yet. The goal of this study was to detect the effect of low intensity treadmill exercise to wallerian degeneration.
